Material Volume Index

Q4 2013 marked the start of a new index: the Material Index. Reason for this was that the forecasts of the total building volumes is reflecting the total market, while our clients operate in different markets with different dynamics. For example a product like bricks is much more used in the new build market, whereas a product like paint is used more in the renovation and maintenance market. Therefore we decided to define six different product categories and show how these ‘markets’ are developing through time. This will give a more detailed view on the developments within this ‘market’, as well as compared to the other ‘markets’. The six product groups are defined as follows:

  • Structural: bricks, concrete, roof tiles, fašade systems, construction floors
  • Dry finishing materials: dry wall solutions, acoustical ceilings, plasterboards
  • Wet finishing materials: paint, plasters, adhesives
  • Tiles, bathroom & kitchen: (ceramic) tiles, bathrooms, bathroom products, kitchens, kitchen products
  • Installation: electrical, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning
  • Insulation: insulation
